Our Inclusion Manager/SENCO is Mrs Jackie Noblet and our SEND governor is Ms Rachel Atkinson.
At Higher Walton C of E Primary School, we believe passionately in the importance of inclusion and equality for all children and adults, and strive to ensure that these values are at the heart of our Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) provision.
The OFSTED inspection in February 2017 stated that ‘Positive views are shared by parents, who said that you hold the well-being of each pupil in high regard and have created a learning environment where pupils can flourish.’
We will always involve parents and children in key decisions, as well as planning and reviewing progress; we know that parents are the first educators of their child and that we need their knowledge and co-operation to plan effectively.
We know that the earlier we identify SEND and provide support, the more successful our children will be. We work closely with a wide range of professionals including Educational Psychologists, Specialist Teachers and Speech and Language Therapists.

A child has special educational needs (SEND) if he or she has learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for him or her to learn than most other children of about the same age.
Many children will have special educational needs of some kind during their education. Schools and other organisations can help most children overcome the barriers their difficulties present quickly and easily. A few children will need extra help for some or all of their time in school.
Special educational needs could mean that a child has difficulties with:
- Communication and interaction - in expressing themselves or understanding what others are saying
- Cognition and learning - in gaining basic skills in school such as reading and writing
- Social, emotional or mental health difficulties - making friends or relating to adults or behaving properly in school
- Sensory and/or physical - such as hearing or visual impairment, which might affect them in school or a medical or health condition which may slow down a child’s progress and/or involves treatment that affects his or her education.
Children make progress at different rates and have different ways they learn best. At Higher Walton C of E Primary School we are proud of the progress our children with SEND make and strive to ensure they become happy and confident learners.
